4.1 WHAT IS BANGKOK DESIGN LAB (BKDL)

BKDL is the application layer of Public Intelligence.

It provides a working space where ideas are examined under real-world conditions — bringing together participants to explore public challenges, surface trade-offs, and consider possible pathways forward.

While Monologue develops clarity and the Public Journal circulates understanding, BKDL focuses on application.

It works with questions that require interpretation, discussion, and testing — not as abstract concepts, but within the constraints and realities that shape public life.

BKDL operates through small, focused formats.

Workshops are designed to create conditions for structured thinking: framing the problem, mapping relationships, and making assumptions visible. The process is deliberate and time-bound, allowing participants to engage deeply without requiring long-term commitment.

The aim is not to produce final solutions.

Instead, BKDL generates structured insights — clarifying how a problem is understood, what options exist, and what trade-offs are involved.

These outputs can take the form of challenge briefings or working papers, which remain open for further interpretation and development.

Within the Public Intelligence ecosystem, BKDL connects thinking to practice.

It creates a space where ideas are tested, refined, and returned to the broader system — informing future reflection in Monologue, feeding into circulation through the Public Journal, and contributing to longer-term perspectives in Thailand by Design.

In this sense, BKDL is not defined by the number of workshops it conducts.

It is defined by the role it plays:

making it possible to think through public challenges in a structured, shared, and applied way.

4.2 NEXT DESIGN LAB WORKSHOP?

BKDL operates through periodic workshops.

Each session is organised around a specific public challenge, with a defined scope, timeframe, and group of participants. These workshops are designed as working spaces for structured discussion and exploration, rather than open forums or public events.

Participation is limited and curated. This allows for focused engagement, where different perspectives can be brought together under shared conditions of inquiry.

Upcoming sessions will be announced as they are developed.

For those who are interested in taking part, or in receiving information about future workshops, a channel of communication is maintained for this purpose.

STAY CONNECTED

BKDL operates on a periodic basis.

For those who wish to follow upcoming workshops or receive information about future sessions, a dedicated channel of communication is maintained for this purpose.

Communication is shared selectively — when new workshops are announced or when there are relevant developments to note.
